Garbage Patches are patches of plastic accumulated in the ocean over the years.

Garbage patches accumulate all in place by the currents, most of the time where a current ends. Some of these disgusting garbage patches reach 80,000 tons of plastic. And in the world, 9 million tons of plastic is thrown in the ocean. If you search up plastic pollution on Google, the pictures will mostly be garbage patches.
